Be the Best Version of You

“Wherever You Can Start Again”

Be the Best Version of You is a young persons’ development project designed to support young people aged 12–18, with provision for young people aged 19–25 delivered through Safe Haven Education & Training.

The programme is designed to help young people rediscover themselves, rebuild confidence, develop resilience, identify their strengths and potential, and gain the focus, skills and direction they need to progress towards education, training, employment and a more positive future.

The Foundation of the Programme – 6 Weeks

The programme begins with Stage 1 – Discover Me / Prepare Me (6 weeks), which is the mandatory foundation stage that every young person must complete before progressing to the next stages.

Stage 1 forms the core of the Be the Best Version of You programme. It can also be delivered as a standalone personal development programme, providing a structured opportunity to explore and address a young person’s past and present needs, challenges, barriers, aspirations and potential.

Rather than simply moving young people directly into qualifications or employment, we first help them understand where they are, where they want to go, and what they need to move forward.

Upon successful completion of Stage 1, each young person will receive an ASDAN-accredited certificate, recognising their participation and achievement in the foundation programme.

Stage 1 – Discover Me / Prepare Me

The mandatory foundation stage – 6 weeks

Stage 1 provides young people with a structured opportunity to discover who they are, understand their strengths and potential, explore personal challenges and barriers, and begin preparing for their future.

Young people are supported to:

  • Discover their strengths, interests, abilities and potential
  • Explore personal challenges, barriers and experiences that may affect their progression
  • Rebuild confidence, self-belief, motivation and resilience
  • Develop positive thinking, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Explore aspirations, interests, career goals and future opportunities
  • Develop a greater sense of purpose, direction and personal responsibility
  • Identify the support, skills and practical steps needed to move forward
  • Prepare for education, qualifications, training, work experience and employment
  • Review and develop CVs and understand recruitment and selection
  • Develop interview techniques and confidence
  • Understand cover letters, applications and effective communication
  • Develop an understanding of workplace expectations and professional behaviours
  • Explore careers, progression pathways and the changing world of work
  • Develop an understanding of the business world, enterprise and entrepreneurship
  • Identify transferable skills and personal strengths
  • Develop digital employability skills relevant to the modern workplace
  • LinkedIn and professional profile development
  • Financial management skills
  • A personal portfolio

Stage 1 therefore looks beyond simply preparing a young person to get a job. It helps them understand themselves, develop the confidence and skills needed to participate in education and employment, and begin to understand how they can progress, contribute and succeed in the modern world of work.

It provides the foundation from which each young person can move confidently into the next stage of their individual progression journey.

This stage provides opportunities to develop recognised skills and qualifications that can support progression into further education, employment, apprenticeships and other pathways.

Stage 3 – Place Me – up to 6 weeks

Young people can then progress into opportunities including work placements, employer experiences, apprenticeships and other pathways into employment.

Why This Programme Is Needed

The effects of COVID-19 continue to be felt by many young people, alongside growing concerns around mental wellbeing, confidence, loneliness, disengagement from education and difficulties preparing for adulthood and employment.

In England, 22.6% of 11–16-year-olds had a probable mental disorder in 2023, while 17% of 16–19-year-olds often felt lonely. Persistent school absence also remains a concern, with 21.53% of secondary pupils persistently absent in autumn 2025/26.

These challenges demonstrate the importance of early, structured support that helps young people rebuild confidence, develop resilience, strengthen social connections and re-engage with education, training and their future.

Our Aim

Be the Best Version of You is designed to inspire, motivate and empower young people to remain focused and believe in their ability to move forward.

Through a carefully structured journey of discovery and preparation, we help young people explore their potential, identify and address key barriers, build confidence and develop hope for the future.

We want each young person to leave the programme feeling stronger, more confident, more prepared and more hopeful than when they began.

In the longer term, our ambition is to help develop confident, skilled and resilient young adults who are able to make positive and productive contributions to their communities and to the wider socio-economic life of the UK.

Why Stage 1 Is Mandatory

We believe that progression should begin with the individual.

A young person cannot always be expected to move directly into qualifications, placements or employment without first having the opportunity to understand and address the barriers that may be preventing them from progressing.

Discover Me / Prepare Me therefore remains a mandatory gateway for every young person entering the wider programme.

It is the stage where we identify needs, explore past and present challenges, build confidence, establish goals and prepare the young person for their next step.

Following completion of this foundation stage, a young person can progress into Stage 2 – Qualify Me and subsequently Stage 3 – Place Me, according to their individual needs, readiness and aspirations.

The journey begins with discovering who you are, preparing for where you want to go, and believing that you can get there.

Wherever you can start again.

Be the Best Version of You.
